Christmas Gift Ideas

Some ideas for christmas presents, stocking fillers and things you may want to add to your Christmas list

  • Eye Masks - these look lovely and go well in a stocking, tucked into a Christmas card and aren't expensive to post!
  • Blue Bowl - I love this place to get presents and Florence is doing advent calendars too
  • Hourglass Palettes - I love Hourglass Palettes and the new ones look absolutely divine. They are worth the money for the amount of use you can get and their longevity but it helps that John Lewis currently have them 20% off
    Hourglass-palettes

  • Nail Collection - All nail buffers are the same. Not true, for some reason this one is better than others. You could get this kit, split it up and use them in stockings
  • Ian Snow - another nice website to look for unusual presents
  • Oskia Super C - I'm very dubious about which Vitamin C products actually work but these do and I love them. You'd be surprised at how many messages I get from husbands asking me for skincare recommendations for their wives 'something expensive they'd never get themselves', this is one of those things I'd recommend and it's currently on sale
  • Hydrogel Eyemasks - these are fantastic for all skin types and they come in a pack of five so great to split up if you have multiple stockings to fill

  • Scalp Massager - using one of these was a complete game changer for my hair. It removes any product build up from the scalp and encourages thicker, healthier hair
  • Beauty Baubles - choose to suit skin type or goals if in doubt, go hydrate.

Christmas Beauty Calendars 2022

I have a couple of friends who get a beauty advent calendar every year and they can be a bit of a gamble. The biggest names are not cheap and if, as I would, you like it to be a surprise then it can be disappointing if it's filled with goodies that aren't your jam.

I won't be giving away any spoilers (you can find them all on the various websites) but I thought it would be helpful to have a little overview of some of the big name calendars so if you don't want to know exactly what is in there you have a little bit more info to help you make your decision. For example I don't want perfumes really so the Selfridges calendar is not for me this year.

For each calendar I will let you know the cost of the calendar, the worth of the calendar and how many products per category. I will also give my personal opinion but as the word personal implies this is just down to my preferences. If you are big into your hair products then the Cult Beauty one is for you.

LIBERTY

The original and for many years, the best this calendar is the envy of many but over the past couple of years I think it's not been as great as it once was and this year... I still agree. It's definitely my second choice of calendars for this year

Costs £245 worth £1065

30 products, 20 full size

Product breakdown:
4 hair
15 facial skincare
2 body
5 makeup
3 perfume
2 candles
1 bath

Liberty-advent-calendar-2022

SPACE NK

I think this would be the one to go for this year, it was my choice for last year too, though it has the least exciting packaging. It just has more of what I want. It doesn't have as many full-size products as the Liberty calendar (Liberty wins in terms of full size products) but I'd rather try more things that I want than have full-size of those I don't. It also explains how the value is much lower than the Liberty option despite it only being £30 cheaper.

Costs £215 worth £770

30 products, 15 full size

Product breakdown:
3 hair
19 facial skincare
1 body
5 makeup
1 candle
1 bath

Space NK Calendar

CULT BEAUTY

This one also looks very good this year, though for me it's a bit hair heavy.

Costs £235 worth over £1000

37 products, 13 full size

Product breakdown:
9 hair
17 facial skincare
1 body
7 makeup
1 perfume
1 candle

Cult-beauty-calendar-2022

LOOK FANTASTIC

This is definitely a good budget option, I looked at the Boots one as well but that's limited to about 3 brands which isn't enough variety for me. I love the design for this though

Costs £95 worth over £500

26 products, not sure how many are full size

Product breakdown:
4 hair
11 facial skincare
2 body
6 makeup
1 candle
1 household

SELFRIDGES

This one is biggest on perfume so lowest on my list especially as for £5 more you get the Space NK one

Costs £210 worth £800

25 products, 12 full size

Product breakdown:
3 hair
8 facial skincare
7 makeup
5 perfume
1 candle
1 household
1 Selfridges based product

Some links are affiliate links which means I will get a small commission if you click through and buy from them. There is no extra cost to you and if you are not comfortable with that then do feel free to open a separate window and google the product for yourself. If it is an affiliate link it usually means I've taken the time to find the best price available at the time of posting.

Christmas Gift Ideas

I wasn't going to do one this year but there are lots of things I keep seeing and thought maybe it would help those of you who are stuck for ideas.

Blue Bowl - as always I do a lot of my shopping for here as I can usually find something for everyone. This year I've gone for a glug jug for my mother in law and I always get some hexagon earrings for someone.

Hexagon_earrings_by_Bluebowl

Zoeva Brushes - these are some of my favourites (though I haven't used the whole range) and there are some great deals on sets at the moment and my go-to for contouring or foundation on my clients is the 110 Face Shape - I must have at least 5!

Atticus, Beetle & Bop - my own online stationery shop I started in lockdown and have yet to mention on here which seems a bit silly but if you need some stocking fillers, a puzzle or lovely matches (which make a fantastic house gift!) then go and have a look.

Fa_la_la_la_la_puzzle

Nkuku - I always seem to find something either I want (always useful if you find you get asked what you want and have a mind blank!) or great presents for my family. The things I've got from here have been fantastic quality.

Fraser & Parsley - I love this brand, they are just a joy to follow on social media and their products are beautiful. I would love the Five Year Christmas Planner as I'm always so chaotic at this time of year and it would make a fantastic gift but I've also had my eye on the Meal Planners for ages. Try as I might to use my phone for things I still find my brain works better when I put pen to paper.

Fraser_and_Parsley_Christmas_Planner

Ruby & Dot - one of my favourite small brands that I've discovered this year. I have my eye on the black sweater with gold eye jumper (because it has lightning bolts of course)

Fizz Goes Pop - another great small business and I spent a lot of time nearly buying myself these lovely lighting hoops (in green thanks!)

Spacemasks - I get these for everyone every year as they are not just an eye mask they are a ticket to some relaxation. Lie or sit down and give yourself a 10 minute break. That's what these say.

Christmas Gift Guide 2020 - Jewellery and Accessories

Flower_of_life_ring
I think this year especially it's love to send something thoughtful in the post but it can be tricky choosing clothes for people. Jewellery and accessories can be a great option and the majority of people listed below I have bought from and offer fantastic customer services to help you track down the perfect gift.

Blue Bowl Silk Clutch - these are beautiful, bright and unusual. I can't decide between yellow or turquoise and red.

Marloe - I really love these zip bags. Good for keeping all your stuff in, for me pens, notebooks and glasses in a dark blue with pink writing. For kids to keep their lego or homework bits in. Makes a great present for a godchild or niece/nephew

Black and Beech knits - i particularly like the forest green and french rose scarf it's spectacular

Hexagon earrings I have and love these. Light and easy to wear they are enough dangle to be fun but not annoying and they go with everything.

Chambers & Beau - I love this jewellry and have been eyeing up the glasses chain for ages

Sharkie & Bear - beautiful, fun earrings made in the UK from cork. Lightweight and easy to wear these make great stocking fillers too.

Earrings_designed_by_Maria_Spanou
House of Evergreen - I'm always wearing something from Katie and these are chunky and usual. The canvas bag strap is also fantastic and easy to send in the post.

Sofianni - stunning unique jewellery designed and made by Maria. She does beautiful commissions and I have my eye on her beautiful hoops with dangling discs.

Yala Jewellery - beautifully designed African jewellery. Ethical and eco-friendly - I really love these bangles.

Christmas Gift Guide 2020 - Beauty

Beauty gifts are lovely, but getting the right one for the right person can be tricky. I've tracked down some of my favourites.
  • Blasta Henriet - these eye pillows are Weighted and unscented eye pillows with removable covers which you can either heat in the microwave and oven, or cool in the freezer. It's a great way to soothe tired eyes, block out unwanted light and help deepen your relaxation. It relieves tired eyes and eases migraines
  • Natasha Denona chromium eye colour - this has been on my list for a while but I can't decide between Dogbane and Dragonfly. Really fun and unusual as either a present in itself of a lovely stocking filler

Christmas Gift Guide 2020 - Children

As always I'm going to try and keep these to as many small businesses as possible - most of these are either things my kids have and love or businesses I have bought from.

Blue Bowl - you could do all your Christmas shopping from this one shop, everything from stocking fillers to vintage books.

Button_and_squirt_animal_cards
Button & Squirt - we have three of these packs and a colouring box and the boys love them. Jack in particular likes to play a game of 'Can you find...' most Mondays when they other two go into school. They have great stocking fillers and toys and the customer service is fab.

Bernie and the Beanpole - one of my favourite places to get the boys pyjamas. They last so well, are well sized and I love the patterns.

Humphries & Begg - they do gorgeous things for grown-ups and now they also do clothes for littles.

Bear & Babe- I love these for my boys, especially the rompers which sadly I now think mine are too big for though they all still wear their leggings. These are my go-to newborn baby present and gifts for godchildren.

Cotton Twist - great stocking fillers and also fantastic presents for posting. Easy to do craft kits at varying stages so there's pretty much something for all children here.

Rex London - one of the first places i go to when I'm starting to do the boys stockings. Though it's not completely plastic-free there's lots of more eco-friendly options.

Christmas Gift Guide 2020 - Home & Garden

These are my top picks for home and garden, as the name suggests. I've tried to keep things to small businesses and things that are easily posted as Christmas is going to be a little unusual this year. But then there's a few things that you may want to just get for yourself because... 2020.

  • Beeswax Wraps - I loved this company when it launched and I love it still. Such an easy plastic swap and you can get beeswax bars to freshen up your old wraps. I have loads myself but these little ones look great and if you were making little presents for friends one of these, a LimeLife eye liner and a Spacemask would be perfect.
  • Becky Bettesworth - I love these vintage-style prints and that this small business has become such a success. I have two of these in on my office wall and I adore them.
  • Flower_frog
Flower frogs - flower lovers, this is the gift you didn't know you needed makes cut flowers stand up in a vase and flower arranging so much less annoying. Makes a great house gift or stocking filler, I love mine.
  • Quilt - this has, I think, made it onto my Christmas wishlist for the last three years . I'm fairly sure that it would be destroyed by the dogs or children within a week but they just look so incredible.
  • Martha and Lily - beautiful prints that are lovely to send to friends. Choose from one of her designs or she can do something just for you.
  • Bird feeder - I really like the look of these on-the-window bird feeders and think the boys would love them on their bedroom windows so these might be a great present for godchildren.  You can get a house shape or a round one. I think I like the round one...

Christmas Gift Ideas

The first place to go and look is Choose Love. Help refugees, those who have left their homes and countries and everything they had. We have so much.

BOOKS
✨ 33 Walks You Shouldn't Miss in London - great for those of us that live in London and don't take advantage of it or anyone about to visit and needing direction.
✨ The Organised Mum Method - I'm biased because I worked on this book but this gives you back control of your house, the cleaning and gives you back time to do stuff you'd rather be doing and housework-free weekends!

CLOTHING
Kimono Dressing Gown - if I didn't have children I would get myself this. Warm and soft and the most beautiful colour.
✨ Leopard Scarf - really fun, a lovely present for a friend, goes with everything whilst adding a hit of colour.
✨ Turtle Doves - I just love their fingerless gloves and have bought them for a couple of people including my teamie Marie who plays the violin in church and who's little hands freeze. They recycle cashmere and wool to make their products which is how I found them in the first place.

Turtle Doves Fingerless Gloves

✨ Stripey Slipper Socks - warm and comfy with spots on the bottom to stop you slipping.

ART & CRAFT
🌈 Vehicles Transfer picture - great for the 4+ vehicle lovers out there.
🌈 World Map - for those who love to find out about the world this is a huge map with 3D figures to play with.
Giant_world_map

BABIES
🌈  Monkey Music - this was local to us and when Jack was a baby, because he was the third and our house is heaving with stuff I got him a term of music classes for Christmas and he loved it.
🌈 Organic Cellular Blanket - I love the colours of this and they are just lovely for newborns to wrap them up in. Tempted to get one for my three as they love wrapping themselves up in a blanket.
🌈  Playmat - I got this for Jack when if first came out. It was lovely and soft and packed away into a bag really easily. Great for taking with you if you go to someones house or in my case, having a square of dog hair-free floor for him to lie on.

Christmas Gift Ideas - Beauty

Silke London Hair WrapEyes
⚡ Viseart Libertine Palette - This looks beautiful, fun, but wearable and not overwhelming. £43.50

Hair
⚡ Silke London Silk Hair Wrap - I do not know why I want this so much. But I really do, and I suspect I may try to get away with wearing this without actually being in bed. We know that silk pillowcases can help your skin and hair but for those of us who wake up looking like pre-Always Bon Jovi this is the business to keep your hair in place. £50

Lips
⚡ Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Charms - I love the new limited collection of Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips lipsticks (although I still hate the name) and these minis are really cute and at a great price point. £25

Christmas Gift Ideas (Books)

I love books and they make fantastic presents for all ages. Whether you are going to stay with someone and need to take something or are posting something to a niece or nephew, hopefully I've got it covered.

Mystery of the Blue Train, Nancy Mitford, Timeless

Agatha Christie - you know I'm a huge Agatha Christie fan and there are three gorgeous new editions out this Christmas. The ABC Murders, 4.50 from Paddington (my favourite of the three) and The Mystery of the Blue Train - all great reads and I really love the new colours. How I wish I could have them.

Blind Date with a Book Club - this is such a fantastic idea - choose the genre's and every month for 6 months you get a book sent to you or you can choose one book based on it's five line sentence. I personally love the sound of the Last Christmas selection.

Blue Bowl - not only my favourite place for presents in general but a great selection of unusual books for grown-ups and children. My eldest (6) loves Smart about Sharks and I'm going to get the middle one Bonkers about Beetles (his nickname is Beetle) and I love the Dahlov Ipcar books too. For grown-up's this is Florence's latest pick.

The Home Bar - a great book (dare I say it?) for men. My husband really loves this book and it looks beautiful.

The Nancy Mitford Collection - from Heywood Hill (where she once worked) this is a beautiful collection of five Nancy Mitford paperbacks in a beautiful box.

Penguin Classics - Waterstones are doing beautiful hardback editions. You can get someone their favourite book or if you have a baby why not get the A Christmas Carol - we got one (in not such a beaut edition) for Ned for his first Christmas and we read it to him at this time every year and it's so lovely.

Small Print Books - a really fantastic independent book shop that has an incredible selection of unusual books for children.

Timeless; A Century of Iconic Looks - Louise Young is the make-up artist when it comes to historical accuracy and I'm so happy to have this book with me when I go on shoots. Not only is it great for make-up artists but a wonderful read for those interested in cosmetics and hair through the ages.

Christmas Gift Ideas (non-beauty)

Of course there is a beauty guide on it's way but for all those non-beauty bits there's this. Everything is in alphabetical order except for the first one because it's the most important.

Choose Love - buy things for people who have been forced to flee their homes with nothing. From children's coats, blankets and nappies, to hot meals, hot showers and tents. The Mother & Baby bundle is a food, clothes and hygiene pack for a mother raising her baby in a refugee camp. You can even get someone medical care. I often get cross with people who make me feel that what I do is a frivolous thing for women with no brains (it isn't) but compared to what these people are going through it is even having a bath is a total luxury. I'm thinking about every little thing I buy this year and where I can, I'm cutting back to get from here instead.

Christmas Gift Ideas for Children

This one was really popular last year - kids are hard to buy for especially if you are trying to avoid the plastic tat route! If you have godchildren, nieces and nephews or any littlies to buy for that aren't yours it can be hard to know where to start. Well you can start here...

Last Minute Christmas Gift Ideas

Blue Bowl leopard and zebra tree decorationsDue to life getting in the way I never did my intended teen post - there are some ideas for teens in the post below but also some ideas that you can either get online while there's time or on the high street. For women (and some men) if in doubt you can make up a goodie bag, for men you don't know well food and drink always goes down well.

Blue Bowl - last orders from this amazing present website are by 2pm on Thursday 21st. Need some stocking fillers? I simply love my leopard and though the zebra's are sadly sold out you can get these cool wild animal dispensers for the washi obsessive in your life (everyone has one of those). Tricky to buy for teens can have these pom pom hair ties or a pyramid pouch.

Beauty Christmas Gift Ideas

This could be pretty endless so I've tried to keep it concise. Some of these I've tried, some I haven't, but all of them are things I would willingly give and gladly receive.

Bath Bombs - I don't know why but they always feel like a treat to me. And come on, they are fun.

Charlotte TIlbury Brush SetBecca Glow on the Go - this on-trend rose gold kit should suit most skin tones. And it's another one that's pretty reasonably priced.

Bobbi Brown - have a lot to offer this Christmas. For those on a bigger budget the Sparkle All Night Eyes and Lips Kit is very wearable and transportable but my personal favourite is the Caviar and Rubies Eye Set.

Charlotte Tilbury - yes her products are (mostly) worth the hype. I'd chose the Bitch Perfect Lip Set (every time I wear this lipstick I get asked what it is, without fail),  I've always secretly wanted this make-up bag, I'm pushing the boundaries on whether you can actually have too many make-up brushes I love this mini kit for when I eventually travel again.

Daniel Sandler - any of the watercolour blushers would be absolutely lovely but the Customisable Colour for Cheeks is pretty special.

Laura Mercier Art of Exotic Colour CollectionLaura Mercier - another gorgeous brush set this year.  The Art of Exotic Colour collection looks love too.

Lipstick Queen Transformer Trio - these are fun and really not unreasonably priced.

Lord & Berry - much underrated in my opinion. I use and love their kajal and their lipsticks and would happily receive their stylographic linerlipstick pencils (in fire, scarlett or blush), or Twistick (in On Stage). And at the moment they are offering a free gift (that I really want) when you purchase two products or more.

Louise Young - another brand from which I would happily recommend anything and her brushes would make gorgeous stocking fillers or goodie bag stuffers.

Marc Jacobs On the Prowl Set - the Marc Jacobs eye shadows have been one of the most talked about releases of this year and the one included in this set looks incredibly wearable. The Wild One eye shadow palette is pretty incredible looking too.
Lipstick Queen Transformer Trio
Nudestix - This Matte Nude Lip and Cheek Stain is lovely, even if I'm a little over matte at the moment.

NYX - may not be high end but one of their Jumbo Eye Pencils would be a welcome addition to any stocking or goodie bag. Cashmere, Iced Mocha, French Fries and Yoghurt are all great colours.

Origins - I'm a huge Origins fan and this Holiday Gift Set looks absolutely wonderful. The Easy Slider Pre-Shave Oil would be great for the man in your life

Philip Kinglsey - the elasticiser is one of the few products I genuinely think makes a difference.

Pixi Best of Bright - yes I love the Glow Tonic but there's something more festive about this little kit and they are the perfect size for those who travel.

Don't forget to go and see my non-beauty gift ideas, and my suggestions for what to get kids aged 0-10. Still to come are presents for teens and my book suggestions.

Some links are affiliate links which means I will get a small commission if you click through and buy from them. There is no extra cost to you and if you are not comfortable with that then do feel free to open a separate window and google the product for yourself

Christmas Gift Ideas (non make-up)

Medium Kitchen Pack from Beeswax WrapsIn my notes I've called this 'Present's for Grown-ups' because it's so hard to divide everything into categories all the time and it's not like when you are Christmas shopping you go 'Oh well I'll just buy for the men I know today, women can be next week'. These can be actual presents, stocking fillers or presents for those tricky-to-buy-for friends of the family who may spend some of the festive time with you. Also some great suggestions for house gifts if you are going to stay with people and want to avoid the usual wine/chocolate/panetone.

Beeswax Wraps - I love these. I love them so much that they sent me some to say thank you for a review and I immediately went online and bought some for friends. If I could be bothered I'd find the timing that I Instagrammed my excitement at the post and then the receipt of my purchase. There's an hour in it max. Anyway, I love all of these and we use our Medium Kitchen Pack all the time and you can read my full review here. Any of these packs would make a really unusual house gift and I like Cheese pack but as a stocking filler the 1 Medium and 1 Small wraps would be great and men who have fires will love the Bee Bombs (a useful present that doesn't clutter up the house... who doesn't
want that?)

Christmas gift ideas for Children 0-10

Ned playing with the Kid-o magnatabFor a while it was really hard to find decent, not-too-expensive, gifts and stocking fillers for children but thanks to shops like Flying Tiger this seems to be improving. Some of these presents would work as gifts for other peoples children, stocking fillers or presents for your own squad but rather than dividing into categories I've listed them alphabetically. I will be posting books separately so keep an eye out.

I know that most people say babies don't need stockings but if there are second, third, fourth children then how are you going to explain to the older ones that santa didn't bother with the baby? My tip is to fill the babies stocking with stuff it needs anyway - teethers, vests, Ella's pouches, weaning stuff can all go in.

A quarter of - yes sweets are bad but with Christmas being such a time of consumerism children are often overloaded with presents and actually are just as happy with a box of illicit sweeties. A Quarter Of is the place to go. Not just for kids their bags of friendship rings got me through the last pregnancy.

Animal Antics Ride on Dino - We all know a dinosaur lover and this is perfect for them. It's dressing up but with a little less faff. My nephews would go crazy for this. And they also do unicorns!

Biscuit cutters - I don't know why but I seem to have a bit of an addiction to these. The right cutter brings such simple pleasure and these are a great stocking filler.

Christmas Gift Bags for Friends

If you have girl friends that you buy Christmas and birthday presents for every year it can be hard to come up with ideas and it can get very expensive. I always love the idea of putting together goodie bags (or hampers) for friends which include lots of lovely little treats and if you are clever you can do lots of friends at once and not break the bank. I've come up with a lovely goodie bag, some ideas of what to go in it and then some budget options to help you out.

Christmas Gift Ideas

Aurelia Skincare Little Treasures Gift I'm keeping it quite short and sweet this year. And, for the most part, quite reasonably priced too. This is a make-up blog but I've included everything I've seen or tried that I'd want. Pretty simple really.

  • Scandinavisk Candle - I have loved every one of these I have smelt and have had my favourite, Skog, since last year and even though I burn it sparingly it gives off the most beautiful spurts of smell. Worth spending money on as it genuinely smells great. From £32
  • JT Make-up Studio Metallic Leaf - this is a great stocking filler for those who love a bit of creative make-up. So nice to be able to give a make-up present with no use by date. These will last forever and are great not only for Christmas and New Year parties but festivals, parties and Ibiza holidays. Minimum effort, maximum impact.£6.80
Nude Skincare Liquid Gold Christmas Gift
  • H&M Jacquard Weave Scarf - I have a large blanket scarf. And I love it. But one's enough. If I could convince myself that it wasn't then I would get this like a shot. I love the colours, it's beautifully soft and particularly appealing to those of us who wear a lot of black. £14.99
  • Aurelia Little Treasures - a great present for girlfriends this contains a mini body oil and hand cream. I absent mindedly tried this oil on the back of my hand whilst waiting for something in Space NK and for the rest of the day it felt amazing. Exclusive to Space NK. £12
  • Consultation with Me! - well if you are like us and trying to de-clutter rather than add more stuff to your life then why not arrange a consultation with me. You can check out my (in the middle of being updated) website here www.corinnaharrod.com
  • Nude Liquid Gold Christmas Bauble - I love this oil and even though it's a tiny bottle of it, a little goes a long way and it's a great present for a girlfriend. £15

More Christmas Gift Ideas

Some more things that I think would make lovely presents... Quite a few candles feature.

    Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit palette
  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit - regular readers will know that I find face palettes a little bit gimicky but Hourglass have really nailed it here. Wearable colours that will suit most skintones, giving a beautiful lit finish without being too shimmery and over the top. Really nice shaped palette with a mirror, chunky but not too fat to go in a travel make-up bag. Especially came into its own when I had a dramatic change in hair colour and needed to warm up my skin tone without looking overly bronzed for December. (Top Row l-r: Dim Light Powder, Irridescent Light powder, Diffused Light powder. Bottom Row l-r: Mood Exposure Blush, Luminous Flush Blush, Luminous Bronze Light Bronzer) £62
