The Best Black Eyeliner Pencils

I thought I should keep this short and sweet. In case you haven't noticed I'm a bit of a black liner aficionado and there are three pencils that I really love. One which I have bought over and over and over and two which are fairly new to me but I will be re-buying when I need to, no questions asked. I get asked about black pencil liners a lot so here they are.

1. MAC Eye Kohl in Smoulder 

You can see from the size of it that it's my ride or die. The one I reach for most mornings whether it's to do a liner or just my waterline. It goes on easily, smudges nicely and lasts a long time. This is not an ink, gel or waterproof liner, it will wear off and it will move which is partly why I like it. But it wears off and moves well. 90s make-up fans take note. £15

2. L'Oreal Infallible Gel Eyeliner Crayon

A panic purchase in the Boots at Euston station causing me to miss my train (which cost me £37 I don't have) but meant I arrived in Liverpool suitably lined. It's hard to find a waterproof liner that will go on the waterline but this does and it stays there. Is now a handbag staple. £4.99

3. Lord & Berry Kajal Stick 

It's big, it's fat, it's slightly tricky to use but it glides on easily and gives a fairly satisfying panda effect. Claudia Winkleman uses it. A little goes a long way. I whack this over the top of a pen liner to give some oomff and rely on the pen to have the longevity. Again this will move and progress around the place during the day but as you know, I'm ok with that. You can read my full review of it here. £14

How to Use and Eyeshadow Palette

I get asked this a lot. I think eye shadow palettes can be so daunting especially now there are so many to choose from so here's a look at how you can use them in a really straightforward way and a look at some of the ones I had to hand at the time of filming. If you want to go high end I love the Chanel quads - they are beautiful, I like Urban Decay palettes and Sleek Makeup are worth a look at too. But really, if you are new to this, go on a good wearable colour that you like and start from there.

5 Minute Heatwave Make-up

You probably know we have been having a heatwave here in the UK. I usually get cross with the term heatwave because, well it's summer, it's just summer not a heatwave, but 33 degrees celcius is pretty much as hot as the UK gets so I'll let it through this time (and even include it in the title of this video!).

It's not a glamorous look but it makes me feel less washed out and gross and like I can pick the kids up from nursery without making the other children weep with fright. This might be good if you work in an office and can't quite bear to wear foundation. It's too hot hear for me to even bother with tinted moisturiser - though I'm desperate to try the new one from Origins.

Summer Glowy Skin Day to Night video

Though I don't deliberately go for a 'look' most of the time I am aware that pregnancy often makes me look tired and spotty and so when I know I am seeing people or when I am not feeling my best I do tend to try and make my skin look as glowing as possible. To hide the fact that it's actually quite dull and lumpy at the moment.

Every time I do this make-up I get told how amazing I look and that's enough for me. I also wear it all day and just add a bit more definition and highlight if I'm going out or seeing people in the evening. For this to be as natural as possible I try to use most cream/liquid products so everything can be seamlessly blended (I then whack powders on in the evening!)

The first part of this make-up is what I do in the morning. I love the Estee Lauder EE cream as it has an SPF 30 (I'm on the hunt for a great powder SPF to top up with during the day). The second part is what I add in the evening before/during/after kids bathtime. It may look that I'm adding extra highlight or blusher on top of stuff that's already there but that's just for the purposes of this video. Imagine that 10 hours have passed...

Face of the Day 27th April 2017

The light's a bit off in this video - sorry about that it's the crazy English spring weather and the fact that I have to set up and film in the brief moments when I am child-free and the builders are not drilling right, next, to, my, head.

I've been loving eye shadow sticks at the moment (more on that to follow) but one that I get almost scared of using is the Colour Chameleon from Charlotte Tilbury because in my head, Bronze Garnet is incredibly orange. It's not. Every time I use it I'm reminded of what a great product this is and how annoying Tilbury is with her cleverness.

Face of the Day - 11th March 2017

This is a really simple face of the day. I've tried to use affordable products and where I haven't I hopefully explain why not and offer a High St alternative. As always I've listed everything below and if I've mentioned other products I've listed them too.

I'm not entirely happy with lip here - it is very pale but the other Burt's Bees balm I had to hand (Hibiscus) was too dark - the one I was after has disappeared!

I should mention that when I say High St quite often I mean affordable. So for me the Lola eye base is an ok price considering how long it lasts but I'm not sure you'd necessarily call M&S High St.

February 2017 Empties

This empties video seems to have winged around pretty quickly but this could be to do with the fact that we are having the bathroom redone and I have no idea where I am going to store everything so I'm frantically trying to use stuff up. It's not going to work. Send help

A few favourites and a quick look at this months giveaway. Sorry if I look and sound gross, the baby got me with his lurgy.

L'Oreal Professional Volume Architect

How my quest for more volume has not got me here sooner I do not know. The only other product that comes close to this is another L'Oreal Professional product, Horizon Fix, in fact I'm struggling to think of one I've tried that hasn't done exactly what it's supposed to.

L'Oreal Professional Volume Architect is easy to use, easy to travel with and not unreasonably priced. Most importantly it works. You don't have to trust me. When checking it out on Feel Unique I noticed that it has 50 five star reviews. That's pretty impressive 

For a long time I've believed that the only way to boost your roots is with a mousse but they inevitably leave your hair feeling a bit crusty and one you've brushed it through it disappears (except the aforementioned Horizon Fix). Not so with this which I spritz through the roots and mid-lengths and then either dry with my round brush as normal or rough dry and sleep on it a bit damp and wake up with the best kind of bed-hair. The kind that those of us with fine hair can only dream of. Yes it doesn't get to Dolly Parton levels but it sorts gives enough oompf that you are not constantly shocked when you see yourself in a mirror with terrible '60s hippy hair' as my mother would say.

Smells nice but not of anything too much and has a really handy lock on the spray so it's great for travel. Straight onto the automatic re-buy list.

Friday Video - Amped Up Pink Bridal

I bought some Maybelline 24hr Tattoo Eye Cream in Pink Gold for a bridal client I have so I've used it here to create a bridal look with a slightly more dramatic liner. Pink is a great colour for all eye colours but especially green and blue eyes. Use with Teddy liner by MAC if you'd rather have a softer liner.
