How to Use and Eyeshadow Palette

I get asked this a lot. I think eye shadow palettes can be so daunting especially now there are so many to choose from so here's a look at how you can use them in a really straightforward way and a look at some of the ones I had to hand at the time of filming. If you want to go high end I love the Chanel quads - they are beautiful, I like Urban Decay palettes and Sleek Makeup are worth a look at too. But really, if you are new to this, go on a good wearable colour that you like and start from there.

Avon True Colour in Mocha Latte
Bourjois Smoky Stories in Over Rose
Bourjois Smoky Stories in Tomber des Nudes
Collection Smokey Eyes which is an old palette I like Eyes Uncovered which is current or the Work the Colour which looks similar to the Smokey Eyes palette

20 Under £20 - My Best Cheap Beauty Buys

I started this off to test myself. It started off easily and then got harder. I've kept it in the order in which these came to me. Which means sometimes you'll be able to see my train of thought. I tried to keep it varied. I could probably name twenty great black liners for under £20 but I've limited myself - you all know I love MAC Smoulder so I've tried where necessary to go for something less obvious. For certain others, like the product that is first on the list, there is no question that it deserves it's place here. It's unrivalled. I've been recommending it for a decade or so.

20 Products for £20

What are your favourites? Have I missed anything you think deserves a place? Let me know down in the comments.

Quick Affordable School Run Make-up

Some of you will be wondering why you need to wear make-up on school run. I salute you. I need to have mascara and concealer on at the very minimum. I don't need to go in with full face every time but I like to have a bit on. Yes it helps being a make-up artist but what I do most days isn't very technical and I thought I'd re-work it a bit to use my favourite high-street products.

Some of us like to have a bit of make-up on when we do school run - but it doesn't need to be Kim K levels and it certainly doesn't have to cost as much. Here's my current go-to make-up it takes five mins and lasts all day. List of products below. Any questions don't hesitate to ask.

If you haven't already then please subscribe to my channel!

Bourjois Smoky Stories Eye Quads

Bourjois Smoky Stories Eye QuadsEye palettes are everywhere are the moment. You can buy any colour, any finish in any price bracket, one for every day of the week but realistically, unless you are a make-up artist, one good eye palette is going to last you 6 months to a year at least - there's almost too much choice. This, obviously, doesn't stop me from having loads but one that I've been using, loving and recommending for the last couple of months is the Bourjois Smoky Stories.

These eye quads come in lots of different colours but the two I picked to try on myself are Tomber des Nudes and Over Rose. The first is pretty nudes and pinks which is almost too pale for me but the second Over Rose is incredibly wearable, suits most people and is the one I've been recommending left right and centre.

Face of the Day - 11th March 2017

This is a really simple face of the day. I've tried to use affordable products and where I haven't I hopefully explain why not and offer a High St alternative. As always I've listed everything below and if I've mentioned other products I've listed them too.

I'm not entirely happy with lip here - it is very pale but the other Burt's Bees balm I had to hand (Hibiscus) was too dark - the one I was after has disappeared!

I should mention that when I say High St quite often I mean affordable. So for me the Lola eye base is an ok price considering how long it lasts but I'm not sure you'd necessarily call M&S High St.

Let me know you affordable/High St foundation favourites and if you haven't already then subscribe to my channel and come and say hi on social media where I'm @corinnaharrod.

Belt Tightening

I've been feeling slightly uninspired of late as the recession really has hit our house and my usual product treats have all but dried up. I then realised that this blog was not solely set up for the purpose of reviewing things so I really have no excuse and should pull my finger out (as my mum would say).

The good thing about having to tighten our belts means that I am finally using all the bits of make-up and tubs of cream that I've had for ages, used twice and then forgotten about having moved on to the next thing. So, poverty has driven me to fall in love with some things all over again and experiment more with how I use them. I realise that maybe I'd got stuck in a make-up rut and I really should be keeping my hand in with different trends.

One product I'm now using most days is Bourjois Suivez mon Regard eye shadow in Illuminateur. I had a massive love in with these years ago and then, as usual, got distracted by something else and never really used them again. Illuminateur is a lovely whitey, silver colour so really good for subtle everyday use or as a base for smokey eyes. It goes with everything so it's really useful if you're trying something a bit daring with other colours but want a safe base. I have this in brown, pink and blueish white too so I'm definitely going to start using those colours again too.

I've also unearthed my not-so-old Laura Mercier bronzer which is great for building up a bit of colour on your face and is easily adaptable depending on what time of year it is. And I'm trying to keep my obsessive mascara buying under control by using the many I already have. This may sound normal but I have at least ten that I've used a bit of and then just got distracted away from by a newer one that I 'must try'. I'm finishing off my Max Factor Masterpiece Max which is one of my top three favourite mascara's, and I've unearthed a L'Oreal Extra Volume Collagene which looks new and I think I used once and then thought it was probably one of those ones that was better having been left open for a couple of months. It's not bad! Not one of the best and you do need an eyelash comb to get some of the clumps out. I'm quite enjoying these trips down memory lane xx

Happy New Year

I hope you all bought the New Year in in style. We had a fabulous party which really couldn't have gone better. All our friends appeared laden with booze and festive fun and made it really the best New Year's Eve I've had in ages. I have to say though that having thought for a long about fabulous party make-up not only did I not get the piece out in time for New Year but I barely had time to get changed and made-up before the guests arrived.

We had a sit down dinner for 35 people made by me and my sister and our respective Mr's. Having spent ages cooking, laying the tables and beautifying the house we then cleared away (that's the bonus of using paper plates and cups and decorating tables), made a dance floor and partied til 11 on Monday morning. It was so much fun. Unlike the clear up the day after but we had moral support so it wasn't too horrendous.

I do have to say that for exciting party make-up you really can't beat Benefit's Show Off eyeshadow. If you do a thick line of eyeliner (BadGal is best for this) and then put on Show Off! (pictured) the colour change is amazing. also do Bourjois Suivez Mon Regard in Bleu insolite and Illuminateur du regard which change colour with eyeliner.

I know I'm a bit late for the big party of the year (or extremely early) but I hope these might help with cheering up those January blues. xx

Feminine Fallbacks

Nicole Richie has been caught 'driving under the influence'. Influence of what you may ask. Well she's admitted cannabis and Vicodin but can that really explain driving the wrong way up a 'freeway'? I think not. I feel a bit bad as she really seems to have been getting her life back on track recently. Everywhere I turn there seems to be another picture of her eating - that can't be easy for someone who's weight is probably the most discussed since Karen Carpenter's. No wonder she had an eating disorder. Wouldn't you if every time you put fork to mouth someone popped up from behind a bush with a camera.

Still, I'm pretty militant in my non-acceptance of DUI so I can't say I'm sorry she got caught. Reports say that she was 'very cooperative and very humble' so i don't think she needs any further chastisement. However, according to Californian State Law second offenders for DUI (Nicole's first run in was in 2002 after 'a shot of vodka') should spend a minimum of 5 days in jail. So in honour of Nicole and her hopefully not-to-wobbly road to recovery, Little Miss B would like to dedicate today's post to one asset that every woman has. The eyelashes. And lets hope Nicole uses these babies to ensure that she stays out the slammer and this 'incident' doesn't derail her road to recovery.
    Benfit Bad Gal Lash
  • First Up its Bad Gal Lash by Benefit. This has to be one of my all time favourites. With 'the biggest brush in the business' it gives you probably the closest to false eyelashes you can get. I used to wear it everyday but I now keep it back for nights out when I want the lashes to be at their most noticable.
  • But size isn't everything. As much as I love Bad Gal the mascara that is an almost permanent fixture on my lashes is Masterpiece Max by Max Factor. It looks a bit scary on the adverts but this is truly a wonder. One of the first mascaras to come out with the new finer brushes, of all the ones I've tried they seem to have got the consistency just right for the brush size. This one is a real must. Worth every every penny.
  • Another fine brush wonder is Magnif'eyes by Rimmel. This really does accentuate every lash but unlike Masterpiece I find this slightly (and ever so slightly)Rimmel Magnif'eyes mascara too thick. If you don't have an eyelash comb this one may cause clumping problems. But only minor ones.
  • Another surprise was Bourjois Pump Up the Volume waterproof mascara. When I first bought this I relegated it to the not-much-used make up bag at my boyfriends house because I found it so clumpy. However, after two months of being open I used it again and it was amazing.
  • As for the white-then-black mascaras Bourgeois Coup-de-Theatre is really good but I like to use Bad Gal Lash on top of the white. My all time favourite is Origins Underwear for Lashes. You can really layer this up and then top it off with The Full Story Mascara (also by Origins).
I have to say there were a couple I was really disappointed by. In face Lash Architect by L'Oreal was probably the most disappointing piece of make-up I've ever bought and as one of the most expensive mascaras on the market. I expected a whole lot more. It clumped beyond repair and after two months of being open became a sticky unbearable mess. I threw it out. I have actually only met one person who thought this was any good but am very willing to be told different. Rimmel's Volume Flash Mascara was also a huge lash clumper. I'm not a fan.

If I had to choose then its a really tough call between Masterpiece and Bad Gal Lash. They are both great by it would probably have to be Masterpiece. Anytime anywhere this is a great mascara which will never let you down.

I would love to hear of anyone who is a devotee of the false eyelashes or who has any suggestions for a mascara (or anything!) they can't live without.
