NARS Sun Wash Diffused Bronzer - Quick Review

I shouldn't love it but I do - see it in action below. I bought it the day before they announced that they would be selling in China. I have put a link to my original review at the bottom - I got trolled after I posted it, even though I don't claim to be a cruelty-free blogger, by someone who eventually suggested I use Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick instead. Bobbi Brown is owned by Estee Lauder... which sells in China. And the shimmer brick is completely different to this which is incredibly subtle. Which proves that trolls are know-nothing idiots. Now, where were we...

NARS Sun Wash Diffusing Bronzer

It's rare for me to rush out and buy a new release because over the past 11 or so years of doing this I've had to learn some discipline. If I could I could quite happily spend hundreds of pounds on products within the next five minutes and still feel like I hadn't scratched the surface on my wish-list. I could bankrupt us on make-up and beauty.

But after reading a couple of good reviews for the new NARS Sun Washed Diffusing Bronzers and I wanted one. A bit weird as NARS is not one of my go-to brands (not deliberately I just feel like I'm so behind there I don't even know where to start ... I have a long wishlist) and I just don't really have a lot of bronzers for myself.

Then I realised that this, of course is exactly the reason. It is a genuinely legitimate purchase. I don't have a lot of bronzers, it's incredibly hard to find one that looks nice on me and not a bit over the top. I love the Luminous Bronze Light from the Ambient Light Edit palette but use it sparingly or look a fright. A good, wearable bronzer for those of use with pale skin who don't want to look super shiny is hard to find. And I think this is it.

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow

I didn't enjoy the run up to Christmas - for various reasons I won't go into but due in part to the most horrific cold I've had in a long time. I had to cancel all my fun early December plans and was generally snotty and abstemious until the 12th by which time I was so behind with the boring bits of Christmas that there was not that much time left to do fun stuff (yes, yes I know, cue tiny little violins).

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow
The outer packaging - which you have to throw out
This is how I came to hop off the tube at Bond Street on my way to meet friends* and head straight into Selfridges with a four year old voucher burning a hole in my pocket and a hankering for some of the new Charlotte Tilbury products.

I thought I deserved a treat and never having scraped together enough money for the Mulberry bag or Chanel sunglasses I wanted to use the voucher for come really high-end cosmetics for personal use. I'd heard and read some fantastic things about Charlotte Tilbury products and the beautiful, classic packaging made my mind up.

I ended up with three products - Filmstar Bronze & Glow, Charlotte's Magic Cream and the Retoucher (reviews on the other two to follow). I have to say you do pay for the packaging - a lot of which you throw away but it's been incredibly well thought out and produced, I almost didn't want to put it in the bin, but that's where it has to end up which and I'd rather not have all the disposable packaging and pay less.
The actual case. Nice isn't it!
I was originally going to get the gold Bar of Gold highlighter but was instead persuaded to try the Filmstar Bronze & Glow face sculpt and highlight and having tried it on there really was no decision to be made. Yes the Bar of Gold may be really lovely to have in your kit for photographic shoots and the more glamorous looks but as this was a personal, rather than a work purchase, the Filmstar Bronze & Glow was much subtler and more wearable and I often contour my face so it's wonderful to have something that does the job so beautifully. It really does transform your face. As long as you blend, blend, blend.

This is now available in two colour options light to medium and medium to dark. Although I usually prefer a matte colour to use as a sculpt this has a lovely tone - you just need to be careful with your blending - and the darker contour powder is beautiful on its own as a bronzer.

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow OpenThe gold-based highlighter is beautiful - very subtle and glamorous. This set is definitely for those who like a classic style of make-up and have a bit of money to spend as it's £49 for 16g of product so not cheap.

I really love this and I would like to keep in my collection, whether I can afford to at that price remains to be seen. I'll also be interested to see how long it lasts and whether it breaks up eventually, as so often happens with products in beautiful packages. There's no denying a lot of thought and time has been put into the new Charlotte Tilbury range and this is one of the products where it really shows. If you try one thing from the range this would be the one to go for I think.

Collection Way-to-Glow Shimmer Shades - Product of the Week

Perfect for adding a bit of shimmering bronze to your cheek bones and high points now that summer is finally here. Way-to-Glow is a great quad of colours that add subtle, highlighted colour without making you dirty or orange. Add to the top of cheek bones and high points of brow for a summery shimmer. Loved it two years ago - my original review is here.

Marks and Spencer Limited Collection Bronzer

Last week I wrote a review of Marks and Spencer's Limited Collection Tinted Moisturiser. I didn't like it very much which was a surprise because for the last 5 ish months I've been using, the Limited Collection Bronzer and loving it.

Writing the review of the tinted moisturier made me realise that I hadn't done a post on the bronzer yet and I feel bad that the first review for Limited Collection on this blog is for something I wasn't so keen on - although I do point out that I pretty much love everything else of their's that I've tried.
Marks & Spencer Limited Collection Bronzer Light
The bronzer, which comes in lovely, if slightly bulky, packaging is available in two shades - light and medium. I have the light and it is matte enough to be absolutely fantastic for really gentle, everyday contouring. If I want to get a extreme contoured look I use Hoola by Benefit which for a long time was one of the only matte bronzers on the market, or if I'm working on someone else I use Soleil Tan de Chanel but I try not to use that on myself and keep it fresh for my kit. But, especially since being pregnant, I like to do some really light shaping with my everyday make-up and the Limited Collection Bronzer is just perfect for that.

I'd like to point out that although the packaging is bulky it seems (so far) to be shatter proof, I've dropped this bronzer a hundred times and it's been absolutely fine - well worth the extra space it takes up in your make-up bag. It is also incredibly reasonably priced at £5 - I've had this for nearly 6 months, using it most days and it's only just starting to run out.

I was so impressed by the quality of this cheap bronzer and so unimpressed by the cheap tinted moisturiser that I have no choice but to try out any other products from Limited Collection that I like the look of and I recommend that you do to. Who knows, maybe I'll find a client with perfet flawless skin, who doesn't need any coverage at all and the tinted moisturiser will come into its own and I'll eat my words!

Soleil Tan de Chanel

I was recently in Norwich for a week doing the wonderful Pixiwoo course and, as you know, money spent on holiday isn't real money so I may have gone a little crazy with the makeup buying. One of my favourite purchases, and one of the most expensive, was Soleil Tan de Chanel. A gorgeous light, cream-gel bronzer that I have been wanting in my kit for years but have always rather baulked at the £29 price tag. Having said that it's definitely worth it, the pot is huge and you really don't need a lot of product for a great bronzed or sculpted look.

Finding a bronzer that will suit everyone is pretty tricky and this isn't the exception. If you are really pale this can just make your face look dirty so do go to a Chanel counter and try it out before you buy it. If it does suit you this is great for doing contouring over, and under, your foundation, adding a sun-kissed look or even on it's own if you are lucky enough not to need a base. I really love this and think it's worth every penny. It also smells really good - which helps.

MUA Mosaic Bronzer

I'm very weary of bronzers, especially ones with a lot of shimmer. I'm quite pale and even the tiniest bit of bronzer makes me look a completely different colour to the rest of me no matter how hard I try to blend it into my neck. I do use matte bronzers for shaping the face and when I am or have been on holiday I'll allow myself a bit of bronzer to bring out my tan. On my recent trip to South Africa, and in fact ever since I got back, I used MUA's Mosaic Bronzer in Natural Glow and have been loving it.

It is shiny but the four different tones are really blendable and give a really natural, slightly highlighted sunkissed look. I've been using it lightly on the cheeks, up to the temples, across the centre of the nose and chin and it's really worked in making me look healthy and post-holiday which is just what I need. I try to wear the highest factor available on my face and wear a hat as often as possible when on holiday so quite often I come home with a face quite a bit paler than the rest of me. This is a very good, amazingly cheap, healthy option to having a suntan on your face and because it's only £2.50 I don't really mind that it's started to break up... my fault for taking it absolutely everywhere with me I suppose! Will be definitely trying their mosaic blushers next xx

Collection 2000 Shimmer Shades

I randomly bought this new bronzer compact in Way-to-Glow from Collection 2000 - something about the colours just called to me and it was only £4.19 which is barely anything for make up nowadays. Having owned it for five days I'm already tempted to get the blusher version, Blushalicious, not only for the reasonable price but for the ease of application, it's versatility and the fact that so far, Way-to-Glow seems to have amazing staying power.

If you are going to do major face contouring then you definitely don't want to use anything shimmery but for a bit of summer shape the two darker colours on this bronzing pallet are great just swept under the cheek bones and up to the temples. I then use the pinky colour lightly on the apples of my cheeks and then a few light circles of all the colours together over my cheeks... I definitely recommend this for people who want a bit of summer shimmer or anyone who's scared of bronzer, this gives you a subtle glow and is incredibly easy to build up should you want to.

What You Need to Know - Way to Glow Shimmer Shade
