My readers are not commenters. Yes I'm talking about you. This is fine. I know you are there and frankly, I'm not a commenter either. But you do send messages and it is so nice to know what products I've recommended that you've bought and loved. I really appreciate this as I find the business of recommending things for people to spend their money on a bit worrying. I mean what if you hate it? Luckily that is yet to happen but I though it might be nice to give a mention to the products that I consistently get messages about. Those products that have made their way into readers routines and stayed there.
These are in no particular order except for the first one. When it comes to feedback the first one in this line-up is the one that I hear most about people loving and repurchasing. This isn't a competition but if it was then entry number 1 would be the winner - by far.

Daniel Sandler Invisible Radiance Foundation and Concealer
And of course, as with every Daniel Sandler product I've tried I have not been disappointed. The finish is beautiful and one thing I've noticed is that I can't stop stroking my face when it's on. Not in a weird way, well, not in that much of a weird way. But it feels really soft, and not clammy like some foundations.

Benefit Hello Flawless
So my keenness to do a Quick Review of Hello Flawless by Benefit led me to believe that I had already reviewed it. I haven't and the more I use it or even when I just see it with all my other foundations the more I think I'm going to have to add it to the automatic re-buy list.
I have mentioned that I have very mixed feelings about Benefit. I'm sure it's something to do with their packaging, now I'm over 30 maybe it feels a bit young for me, but some of their products are amazing and they have had some (sadlynolongerwithus) gems in the past: Talk to the Tan and the old Erase Paste (not the new, yuk). I think maybe I subconsciously feel like nothing that great can come in such youthful packaging. I know I'm wrong but that's what I think must be my problem with Benefit.
Anyway, anyway, anyway every time I wear this foundation everyone comments on how great my skin looks. My skin is good, as in it's smooth, but I do have redness and discolouration in parts and so although I don't need a full-on coverage I do need buildable coverage for my red patches. I also really like having a foundation with SPF25 in it, unlike the usual 15 which often just isn't enough and therefore I'd rather add an SPF under my foundation. It also has PA+++ the highest UVA protection you can get (SPF protects against UVB).

In the Kit - Bobbi Brown Palettes
I'm not a Bobbi Brown devotee though the more of her products I use the more of a fan I am, it's just one of those brands I was late getting too, but what is so nice the knowledge that I have every eventuality covered with good quality make-up and that is the beauty of having these palettes in your kit.
So lets start with the BBU palette, it was the first of the two to be on the market and used to only be available to pro's. I sort of wish it still was, it is an expensive purchase for any of us and if you are not a pro make-up artist you really don't need this. Especially when there are so many customisable palettes nowadays you can make your own base, contour, highlight and concealer palette so easily for a fraction of the price. Making non-pro artists spend money on products they don't need is something that makes me so angry.

Estee Lauder EE Cream
I was trying to be organised-ish before the baby arrives and was going through my (huge) list of things to review (not as huge as my list of things I want to try) and realised I never actually reviewed the Estee Lauder EE Cream. I did a Quick Review video of it and then raved about it to anyone who would listen soooo much that I felt like I'd reviewed it to death. I haven't. So here it is.
I'm dubious of the whole BB, CC, EE cream debacle. Surely they are all just variants on tinted moisturisers? Well yes they are but with specific claims and the Estee Lauder EE cream claims to even skin tone (the EE stands for Even Effects apparently). This 'even-ing' claim coupled with my life-long quest to find the perfect tinted moisturier is what initially led me to buy it and I have to say at first I was a little disappointed. Yes I love this product but why oh why does it only come in three colours? The lightest colour is very pale on me and the medium would be far to dark. I got the lightest and it will be fine until I get any sort of tan. However, I do love it enough that I may buy it in medium so I have the option of mixing the perfect colour throughout the summer.
The next thing you have to get used to is the light coverage. Yes this does even the skin tone but it is a very light coverage so prepare yourself for that (and have some concealer to hand if you think you'll need it). I use concealer even I use a full coverage foundation so for me this was pretty easy to adjust to but what is so lovely about this product is it's blendability and finish. You can really work this into to the skin so you get exactly the coverage you need where you need it and every time I wear this I get comments on how great my skin looks. Every. Single. Time.
It's price is a little expensive for what it is - yes I'll pay it because I really like the product - but considering you can get a Chanel foundation for £32 this is quite an outlay for a tinted moisturiser. It does have a good whack of SPF in it though. I like to wear a high SPF on my face in the summer - 30 at least - so I find it quite frustrating when my make-up has a SPF 15 because I don't like to build SPF's in case they cancel each other out. So I either use a separate SPF and can't use the make-up product or use the make-up and worry about sun damage. Not so with this that's to it's SPF30.
This is one I would definitely recommend trying before you buy but I do recommend trying if you are looking for a new base/tinted moisturiser and want something light with a dewy finish. Really beautiful and long-lasting.

Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturiser

Why did I buy it? Well I wanted an every day tinted moisturiser that was going to make me look and feel great but natural and glowing with minimal effort. I don't have bad skin though I do have a bit of redness so I thought I could get away with a light coverage. I'd heard so many good thing about the Chantecalle Just Skin that I thought I would take the risk and splurge the rather eye-watering £58 required and was really pleased when there was a Chantecalle make-up artist in Space NK to colour match me.

In the Kit - MAC Face and Body Foundation

Foundations may come and go but MAC Face and Body is a kit staple for a lot of make-up artists. But why? Well, so many reasons. Foundation is expensive, it doesn't last forever and obviously you need more than one shade and Face and Body is still the most versatile foundation out there. And, as the name implies this works well not only on the face but all over the body should you need it to. If you need to tan up legs and arms on a shoot, then this is the foundation to go for.

Estee Lauder EE Cream - Quick Review Friday Video
When I first tried this I was a bit miffed I'd spent £34 on it. Now I love it. Filming this video it was the first time I'd worn it for a week and I loved it a little bit more. Really worth trying if you want something for an ultra-light everyday coverage (you can use concealer over the top where you need it). Just wish it was a little bit cheaper.

Quick Review - Diorskin Star Fluid Foundation
I really like this foundation... I think you'll see that from this video!

Dior Star Fluid Foundaion
The first time I used this foundation I was in a hurry, I hadn't moisturised (tut tut) and I thought it was a bit meh. I WAS WRONG. The next time I tried it it blew my mind. It's that good.
In this job you hear a lot of 'this is the best... it does everything... it's better than... etc etc' and I have to say it's very easy to go 'yes yes' nod enthusiastically, go home, try it and find it's not as amazing as they've made it out to be (and why not? it's their job after all). And I assumed this was the same for the new Diorskin Star foundation but this product actually lives up to the hype.
With a long-lasting, radiant, professional finish this it the foundation that the lovers of the now extinct Chanel Pro Lumier are looking for and, available in 12 shades, this medium to full coverage foundation is pretty light on the skin and lasts all night even without a primer underneath. The luminosity comes from the doughnut shaped pigment spheres that reflect two dimensional light which intensifies the natural healthy glow - most modern foundations contain solid spheres only reflecting light in one direction which can cause a flat mask-like appearance.
But this new technology is not the only fantastic thing about this foundation. It contains powerful active ingredients with longer-term skin benefits. Immortelle flower encourages cell renewal and softens the skin, daisy extract regulates melanin production to counteract dark spots and liquorice extract combats redness. These are said to improve radiance and smoothness of the skin by 50% in just 4 weeks - whether this is true or not it's great to know that something you are putting on your skin as make-up is benefiting it as well.
Dior recommend using this with their Backstage Pro's Fluid Foundation Sponge (also available in September) - their version of the now famous Beauty Blender - but I use it with my foundation brushes and/or hands and it goes on very well. The trick with it is to use a little at a time and build and blend on well moisturised skin. It really does even out your skin tone and I hardly had to use any concealer when using this foundation - it worked that well on my redness and dark circles.

Friday Video - Quick Review: NARS Sheer Glow
I really didn't like this when I first bought it but it's been my most used foundation this summer. Great light to medium coverage, lovely finish but not suitable for oily skins or those who want to cover their freckles (I get asked about that... a lot). In the video I say it's only available in 7 shades, that's a lie, there are lots more but not all are always stocked, if that makes sense. The colour I'm wearing here is Santa Fe

Quick Review: No 7 Youthful CC Cream
I found this product difficult to review. Initially I didn't like it for it's lack of any coverage or evening of skin tone. Then I started to really like it's lightweight feel and slightly luminous finish. So although this will never really have quite enough coverage for me and I won't be buying it again I would recommend for someone who didn't need to even they skin-tone and just wanted a really light all-over base.

MAC Matchmaster Foundations
MAC Matchmaster - 1.5, 4.0 and 9.0 |
The great thing about most MAC foundations (and a lot of other brands too) is they mix together well meaning you can get two or three colours and then mix them to match the skin tone you are working on therefore not breaking the bank and meaning you don't have something sitting in your kit that you've used once for one person and have never needed again. I got 1.5 (by mistake I meant to get 1.0 but so far so good) 4.0 and 9.0 and have yet to find a skin tone that I haven't been able to match. It also photographs well despite its SPF15.
The reason it is called Matchmaster is that it uses translucent pigments to match your skins undertone giving a demi-matte, line reducing finish and medium bendable coverage. Now I'm not sure if all that about translucent pigments is true but so far it has blended really well with all the skin tones I've tried it on which is impressive but I don't love the finish.
The colour blend is impressive but for me this is no competition for MAC's Face & Body.

Chanel Vitalumier Aqua
Due to the extreme cost it's rare that I'll buy a Chanel product unless I have a specific wedding or event coming up that I need to use it for or I've tried it out and decided I can't live without it. The Vitalumier Aqua foundation falls into the second category and so I decided to treat myself and for a while I wondered if I'd done the wrong thing.
The first couple of times I used this it seemed almost too watery and not very perfecting at all. My red blotches seemed to glare through and I was quite disappointed. However, I persevered and with a good shake before use this foundation has become one of my absolute favourites.
Once you've shaken it you only need a small amount of this is an ultra-fine foundation to give great but light coverage with a lovely dewy finish. Easy to apply and working almost as a second skin, it perfects and evens the complexion with a lovely finish. I really recommend trying this if you want an everyday Chanel foundation but, as with all the higher-end brands, I recommend going to a Chanel counter and trying out before you buy. If I'm trying something out I will do my eye makeup as I want it for the day, go to the counter ask them to put the foundation on my (making sure I'm happy with the colour choice before it goes all over!) and then wear it for the rest of the day to make sure I'm really happy with it.
The packaging for this foundation is also different to a lot of the other Chanel foundations and although it's very plasticy I actually think it's a lot lighter, and therefore travel friendly, and the lid is more secure. For £32 I originally expected a little bit more on the packaging front but I'm away a lot at weekends so actually this suits me down to the ground, and I guess it is one of their cheaper foundations. Still slightly eye-watering, but then you are paying for that name.

Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation
Dr Perricone is a highly respected dermatologist who works with a number of celebrities and it was their famous faces that convinced him to come up with his No Foundation Foundation. This is my number one recommendation for foundation wearers to take on holiday. I can recommend tinted moisturisers, and I will soon, but if you want a bit more coverage then this is it as far as I'm concerned.
I personally think that if you are under 30 and going somewhere hot you probably really don't need a foundation, however, Perricone's No Foundation Foundation is so light that it feels more like a tinted moisturiser and it's anti-aging qualities are not too harsh to cause damage. It has SPF 30 which doesn't seem to affect the colour and coverage at all - it corrects skin's undertones, smooths fine lines and provides moisture to the skin rather than drying it out as some foundations can.
I love wearing this product - it really evened out my skin tone, covered blotches and gave my face such a natural finish, dewy but not too much. It is not the cheapest purchase at £48 for 30 ml but I really don't think you can put a price on getting products that do what they are supposed to while being safe for your skin. I also love the old fashioned packaging - like you've bought it from a proper pharmacy!
