Veil Cosmetics Complexion Fix

I bought this on a whim and that's how I always make my make-up mistakes. And the worst thing is I was suckered in on something about which I should know better. One of my absolute top make-up peevs is when I ask someone what their favourite concealer is and they say, 'touche eclat'. Touche Elcat is not a concealer it's a cream highlighter which may be fine for those who really don't need a concealer or who have bags and not dark circles but it's going to add lift to anything that you want to cover. Basically the same can be said for Veil Cosmetics Complexion Fix.

Now, I do not have the right colour for me. I have N2 which, I'm assuming, stands for Neutral 2 and what I probably should have is P2, Pink 2 which will be better for dark circles. However this doesn't have enough ooomph for my redness either. First time I tried it I hated it. Didn't like the plasticy packaging and it was basically like smearing vaguely tinted nothing cream over my dark blue circles. Second time, I didn't hate it so much, it sort of served a purpose though not entirely the one I was after. And so it's continued. You can get ok coverage if you build this up but I sort of don't want a product I have to build up. Also it just doesn't last all day

On the plus side this does lighten nicely, is weightless and blends really well without sitting in fine lines. If you have dark circles you will absolutely need something underneath this be it a proper concealer or a corrector. For me it barely covers redness but there is no denying that it is flattering. Tomorrow I'm even going to try wearing it on my eyelids - I think it will look nice. It's a weird one even though it totally doesn't tick the boxes I wanted it to, I find myself liking it more and more. That being said I absolutely couldn't justify repurchasing this when Clarins Instant Concealer is a similar price (Clarins is actually cheaper) and does an absolutely fantastic job of covering everything you could possibly need it for. I will be doing a Quick Review of this as soon as I can as I think it's one you have to see in action though we all know that these things often look way better on camera than they do in real life but I'll try my best.

This is another product where I seem to be in a minority of those who don't love it. It has rave reviews everywhere I've looked online even a few positive mentions on Mumsnet of all places. This is not the first, nor will it be the last, time that I don't love something that everyone else does but this is a blog where honesty is top and believe me, for £24 I wish I loved this product.

It's also worth noting that even though it claims to help dark circles, redness, sensitivity, wrinkles and fine lines, dull complexion and uneven skintone they also recommend that you have different shades to fix each of these problems so this isn't going to be a one-product fix-all that it maybe comes across as.

If you have great skin and don't want to wear a base but want something very light to maybe just even out the odd imperfection then this would be worth a try. If you have an uneven skin tone like me then you'll need so much of this you'd do better wearing a tinted moisturiser. Or if you have a more mature skin and you want something pretty sheer that is going to help with lines and wrinkles this would also work. Is this for you if you have dark circles. No. Unless you wear a very flat concealer and want something sheer to smooth on top to give it a lift. This would be great however, if you have under-eye bags. Apply it into the crease and this will lift and flatten and look fantastic - also great for those with smile lines from their nose down who want to give a lift to those.
